Abstract

Angular distributions for the elastic and inelastic scattering of 0.8 GeV protons from Ar40 are presented. Cross sections for protons exciting states up to about 6 MeV were measured using a high-resolution spectrometer. Distorted-wave Born-approximation analyses of states of spin 2+, 3, 4+, and 5 were performed using collective-model transition densities.
