Abstract

Formulas for calculating the characters of the representation matrices and the number of independent components of any physical-property tensor of quasicrystals have been derived by using group-representation theory, where the internal symmetry of the physical-property tensor was considered. As an example of their application, we have calculated the number of independent elastic constants up to cubic order for many of the quasicrystals discovered to date.
