Abstract

Ion channeling in YBa2(Cu1xFex)3C7y single crystals (x≤0.05) along the [001] and [011] directions shows that a fraction of the Fe lies out of the (001) plane and therefore does not substitute exactly in the Cu site. Both the backscattered MeV-ion beam and characteristic x rays are measured to obtain this result, and a simple theoretical basis of this process is described.
