Abstract
Two-photon excitations of the transitions in -doped KCl have been studied. The splitting of the transition confirms that the symmetry of the ion is lower than cubic because of the presence of a charge-compensating cation vacancy. and multiplets have also been measured and their centers of gravity are compared with those observed in Ca:.
