Abstract
The ignition of the fuel compression in the cylinder of a diesel engine is a complex and multistage character. The addition of alcohol has no significant effect on the ignition delay period and only leads to a slight change in its value. At the same time, if we assume that the evaporated alcohol is evenly distributed throughout the air charge, then the question remains about the amount of alcohol that burns in the first phase of combustion and determines the value of dynamic indicators. In the paper we propose a scheme of the evaporation and combustion of drops of the alcohol-fuel emulsion.
