Abstract

The heat capacity of NiBr2 has been measured for 8K<or=T<or=K. Two features of magnetic origin are prominent: a broad feature at T approximately 46K and a spike at T=19.5K, respectively corresponding to the Neel temperature and to the transition to an incommensurate structure. The results are compared with recent theoretical predictions for the low-temperature magnetic heat capacity.
