Abstract

The emission spectra of KrXe mixtures were plotted at different total pressures and at xenon concentrations varying from 0.5 to 99%. A characteristic emission of the mixture was seen at 490 nm, it appeared as soon as possible as the mixture contained 0.5% xenon. The emission at 490 nm has a maximum intensity at a xenon concentration of 20%. The shape of the light pulses obtained for this transition is described by an exponential decay with a time constant corresponding to the formation of the radiative state. The KrXe+ ion involved is the IV1/2 state; the kinetic scheme given defines the role and the value of the various reaction rate constants.
