The apparent orbit of Capella.
Abstract
Fifty-six interferometric observations of Capella covering more than 200 revolutions of this 104-day spectroscopic/interferometric binary are used to calculate for the first time an apparent orbit independent of spectroscopic observations. The new orbit is in excellent agreement with the combined solution of Finsen (1975) and serves as a means for comparison among the various interferometric techniques which have been used to resolve Capella during the past 60 yr. The 56 observations have rms deviations from the new orbit of + or - 2 milliarcsec in either coordinate.
