Abstract

Public relations (PR) in Singapore can be traced back to the period immediately after World War II when the British colonial authorities re-established power after the defeat of Japan. As Singapore’s status as a cross-road for trade and innovation grew, public relations expanded. This started with government and corporate interests and has expanded, with a strong emphasis on nation identity and nation-building. The PR industry has grown to be one of the main hubs in Asia, alongside the development of media industries and regional corporate headquarters. At present, PR remains at a pre-professionalization stage but is considered to be moving in an upward direction.
