New Perspectives on Desistance

Abstract

The introduction briefly reflects on the development and current state of desistance research, arguing that we have a good general picture of what matters in relation to desistance, but lack knowledge of desistance trajectories of specific offender groups (defined by, for example, a particular sentence, offence, or life circumstance). This volume therefore brings together a collection of emergent research that moves the debate on desistance beyond a general consideration of individual and social structural influences. The introduction outlines the different sections and highlights the key contributions of each chapter.
