Zusammenfassung

Nach experimentellen Voruntersuchungen werden Bulbuswandstärken echographisch bestimmt. In etwa 30% der Fälle lassen sich Netzhaut, Aderhaut und Sklera getrennt darstellen und vermessen. Die statistische Auswertung der Ergebnisse zeigt eine enge negative Korrelation zwischen Bulbuswandstärken und echographisch ermittelten Achslängen. Die Bedeutung dieses Resultates für die Vorstellungen zur Genese von Myopie und Hyperopie wird diskutiert.

Summary

Following preliminary experimental studies the thickness of the posterior coats of the eye was determined echographically in 159 eyes. In about 30 percent the retina, choroid and sclera could be measured as distinct layers. The statistical evaluation of the results reveals a close negative correlation between ocular wall thickness and the echographically measured length of the axis. The importance of these findings for the pathophysiological origins of myopia and hyperopia is discussed.
