Significance

A copper-catalyzed efficient synthesis of triazolyl-alkylphosphonates by a 1,3-dipolar Huisgen reaction from azidoalkylphosphonates or alkynylphosphonates and alkyl azides is reported. The reaction is regiospecific and proceeds well even in air, which is unexpected considering the instability of in situ generated Cu(I) in the presence of oxygen. The scope of this reaction was not fully exploited.
