Significance

In this report, the authors have extended the scope of their previously published route (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2005, 127, 4350-4353) to generate all-cis-poly(arylenevinylene)s (PAVs) through Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling polycondensations. Model compounds were used to identify the reaction conditions yielding the highest cis selectivity. Screening in the polymerization reactions indicated that the phase-transfer agent, Bu4NBr, is required to achieve high molecular weight polymers.
