This issue commemorates the fifth year of the Journal of Diabetes and Endocrine Practice (JDEP). It also marks our first issue since the transition to a more internationally recognized platform, Thieme Publishers. Despite the low volume of submissions, we achieved our target of four issues per year in the last volume. However, we are cognizant of the needed hard work to maintain the momentum to achieve more quantitative and qualitative progress.[1] Since the journal is now listed among the publications of our new publisher, we hope to gain more confidence from authors and readers.

The current issue, albeit small in size, has covered our usual interests. All articles are closely relevant to our readers' clinical practices and research interests such as the impact of Ramadan fasting on diabetes care, patterns of management of endocrine conditions, and diabetes care in conflict zones.

Moving to a new publisher was deemed necessary for the journal to grow and develop further toward international recognition and appropriate indexation. Indexation status is a major concern for many potential authors. The journey for full indexation does not happen at birth but needs to be nurtured to reach adulthood stage. Perhaps some regional sense of duty and loyalty and perhaps positive discrimination are needed to support emerging journals.[2]

Maintaining the relevance of the journal to its potential readers remains a vital determinant of the journals strategy. As stated in the inaugural editorial, we are aiming for a regional journal with international standards.[3] We are grateful to those who trusted JDEP to disseminate their research and opinions. We are indebted to our old and recent friends from all over the world for contributing toward the journey of the journal from infancy to full maturity. Last but not least, the editorial team is most grateful to the Gulf Association of Endocrinology and Diabetes for the exclusive funding and unrestricted support.

It is time for us to act now to nurture this together. We wish you all the best for the year 2022.
