Abstract

Secondary metabolites (essential oil, flavonoids, coumarins and phenolic acids) of different chamomill tissues (flowers, herb, root, tumors) have been investigated and the results have been compared:

  1. All tissues contain sesquiterpenoids such as farnesene. The quantitative pattern of these substances is varying.

  2. Stem tumors contain about as much essential oil as herb.

  3. Tumors lack bisaboloids and cham–azulene; roots and herb lack cham–azulene too.

  4. Tumors and roots lack flavonoids as well as the coumarins herniarin and umbelliferon; these substances are found in herb and flowers.
