A dual-resonance, compact PIFA design is modified into a 3D, spherical, variation, to investigate improvements in efficiency. Simulated results are presented to illustrate the design and optimization process, and complemented with measurements of 3D printed prototypes; the challenges of 3D printing are highlighted, and some solutions offered going forwards.
