A novel concept of hybrid-type fibre Bragg gratings is proposed. The complex growth behaviour of such a grating has been observed experimentally. A new dynamic model has been proposed and developed to simulate the complex and dynamic growth of hybrid-type gratings. The modelling results showed excellent agreement with the experimentally observed spectral evolution of the hybrid-type grating.
