Minimum network wavelength requirement design of multi-wavelength all-optical transport networks using a genetic-algorithm (GA)/heuristic hybrid approach is described. Improved performance (over a GA alone) and improved results (over recent heuristics) are obtained using a tool for optical network optimisation, modelling and design (NOMaD).
