The authors report a single-frequency unidirectional erbium fibre ring laser operating at 1.55 µm which uses an intracavity phase-shifted fibre Bragg grating as an ultranarrow frequency bandpass filter. The linewidth of the laser was measured to be <2.0 kHz.
