The thermal decomposition of iron(II), cobalt(II), and nickel(II) hydroxides

Abstract

The thermal decomposition of iron(II), cobalt(II), and nickel(II) hydroxides has been investigated; kinetic parameters were obtained by isothermal and non-isothermal methods. The activation energies for the decomposition lie within the range 17–26 kcal./mole, in good agreement with values reported for the structurally similar magnesium hydroxide system. Interpretations are given of various phenomena observed during the kinetic experiments.
