Phenomenological study of a new flow model of the Belousov–Zhabotinskii reaction

Abstract

We present a new flow model of the Belousov–Zhabotinskii reaction. The model uses the modified Field and Forsterling set of rate constants and incorporates a set of radical reactions generating bromide ions from HOBr without passing through BrMA. Two separate sets of the radical reaction rate constants are chosen, and the behaviour of each set is examined at different flow rates. Mixed-mode oscillations, chaos and three distinct types of bursting are observed. The trend in complex phenomena is discussed and compared with experimental results.
