Facile preparation, characterization, and X-ray crystal structure of [Ru3{µ3-η7-C5Me3(CH2)2}(µ3-O)(µ2-H)(η5-C5Me5)2(η2-SO4)], a high–valent hydrido–oxo cluster of ruthenium
Abstract
The reaction of KHSO5 with [(C5Me5)Ru(OMe)]2(1) in a two-phase medium such as CH2Cl2–H2O or in methanol produces in high yield the novel cluster [Ru3{µ3-n;7-C5Me3(CH2)2}(µ3-O)(µ2-H)(η5-C5Me5)2(η2-SO4)](2) characterized by an X-ray crystal structure determination in which two adjacent methyl groups of a C5Me5 ligand have been activated and are co-ordinated to two ruthenium atoms giving rise to a novel µ3-bridging η7-dimethylene-trimethylcyclopentadiene ligand; the generality of this reaction is demonstrated by the production of a similar cluster, [Ru3{µ3-n;7-C5Me3(CH2)2}(µ3-O)(µ2-H)(η5-C5Me5)2(η2-SO4)](3), from the reaction of (1) with m-chloroperbenzoic acid.
