Abstract

Treatment of [Cl(dppe)2Ru–C[triple bond, length half m-dash]C–C[triple bond, length half m-dash]C–SiMe3 ] with [Fe(C5H5)2]PF6 leads to an unprecedented metal-assisted [2 + 2] coupling reaction on Cγ[triple bond, length half m-dash]Cδ bonds to obtain [Cl(dppe)2Ru–C[triple bond, length half m-dash]C–C[double bond, length half m-dash]CHC(CH2 )[double bond, length half m-dash]C[double bond, length half m-dash]C[double bond, length half m-dash]Ru(dppe)2Cl]PF6 with the charge highly delocalized over seven carbon atoms and including a cyclobutenyl bridge; the crystal structure was solved.
