Retention of Neutral Organic Compounds From Solution on Carbon Adsorbents

Abstract

The solvation parameter model is used to characterize the principal intermolecular interactions responsible for the retention of neutral organic compounds on activated and graphitic carbons. The dominant interactions are due to general dispersion with significant contributions from polar interactions of a dipole/polarization type and lone pair electron attraction.
