Biosynthesis of the alkaloid skimmianine in Fagara coco from [4-14C]mevalonic acid, [5-14C] mevalonic acid, and [1-14C]dimethylallyl alcohol

Abstract

[4-14C]Mevalonic acid, [5-14C]mevalonic acid, and [1-14C]dimethylallyl alcohol are efficient precursors of the furanoquinoline alkaloid skimmianine in Fagara coco; degradation results confirm the isoprenoid origin of C-2 and C-3 of the furan ring of the alkaloid.
