Laboratory production of X-ray lasers

Abstract

Laser-produced plasmas seem to be the most promising sources of soft X rays at the high intensities required for laser action. Strong laser amplification has recently been demonstrated at the lowest X-ray energies, suggesting that true soft X-ray lasers will soon be available in the laboratory.
