Abstract
KORMAN1 described the production of coagulase positive and pleiotropic, coagulase negative mutants from a strain of S. aureus, NCTC 8511 (propagating strain 53 of the International Phage Typing series), by ultraviolet irradiation and selection on tellurite glycine agar. Amino-acid, amino sugar and teichoic acid compositions of the cell walls of the Korman parental strain (NCTC 8511) and of the mutants have also been published2,3. We have now determined the menaquinone content of these strains.
