Stability of Hydrocarbon Dispersions of Titanium, Zinc, and Calcium Oxides in an Electric Field

Abstract

Hydrocarbon dispersions characterized by an aggregation and sedimentation stability in strong electric fields are obtained for titanium, zinc, and calcium oxides. To stabilize the suspensions, adsorption layers of 12-hydroxystearic acid, isotactic polypropylene, and barium di(2-ethylhexyl)dithiophosphate are consecutively applied. The observed stability of the dispersions is explained using the concepts of the concentration and hydrodynamic components of the polarization interaction between dispersed particles in an electric field.
