Strength of Materials Aims and scope

Abstract

This paper deals with damping ability of flat specimens of Ti–6%Al–4%V titanium alloy with electron-beam-deposited yttrium and tin coatings. It is demonstrated that machining (plastic deformation) of the coating material allows an increase in the level of damping of the coated products in the range of small and medium strain amplitudes. A device for measuring damping characteristics of cantilever plate-like specimens is described.
