Abstract

The mixed-valence compound, [C10H10N]4PMo12O40, has been synthesized from N-methylisoquinoline iodide and molybdophosphoric acid, and characterized and recrystallized from DMF solution by diffusing acetone vapor into the solution. The anion has the Keggin structure. E.s.r data indicate that the single electron in the title compound is delocalized at room temperature, but localized on one molybdenum atom at low temperature. X.p.s data indicate that the binding energy of the elements in the anion decreases after salt formation.
