Résumé

Objectie

Summary

Objective

The authors wanted to study the bacteriological aspects of Salmonella strains collected in the Infectious Disease Clinic at the Dakar Fann University Hospital, from January 1995 to June 1997

Material and methods

The strains were identified according to biochemical (API 20 E, Bio-Mérieux) and antigenic features. Their susceptibility to antibiotic drugs was tested by antibiogram.

Results

Fifty strains were isolated and studied. The following serotypes were isolated : Salmonella Typhi (50 %), Salmonella Enteritidis (28 %), Salmonella Typhimurium (10 %), Salmonella Paratyphi C (4 %), Salmonella Paratyphi A (2 %), Salmonella Infantis (2 %), Salmonella Dublin (2 %), and Salmonella Fusherhuette (2 %); 66 % of the strains were susceptible to all β-lactams and 20 % were secreting an extended-spectrum β-lactamase; 80 % to 100 % of the strains were susceptible to other antibiotic drugs, and no strain was resistant to fluoroquinolones.
