Case Reports
The three cases of successful cholecystectomy (laparoscopic or open) were performed between 14 and 19 years after OLT. The first two patients underwent a cholecystectomy due to symptomatic cholecystolithiasis or colic and cholecystitis respectively. The third patient underwent a simultaneously cholecystectomy for asymptomatic cholecystolithiasis during a right hemicolectomy for de novo colorectal carcinoma of the ascending colon 17 years after OLT. Discussion
Despite the surgical advances and the improvements in survival rates, complications involving the biliary tree remain a common problem after OLT. They are associated with significant morbidity and mortality1 (2%–7%) or retransplantations (6%–12.5%), constituting one of the leading causes of graft dysfunction or loss.5 Reported rates of biliary complications range from 6% to 34% of cases, depending on the type of graft, donor, and biliary anastomosis.
