Problems of QCD factorization in exclusive decays of B meson to charmonium

Abstract

We study the exclusive decays of B meson into P-wave charmonium states χ_cJ (J=0,1) in the QCD factorization approach with light-cone distribution functions describing the mesons in the processes. For B→χ_c1K decay, we find that there are logarithmic divergences arising from nonfactorizable spectator interactions even at twist-2 order and the decay rate is too small to accommodate the experimental data. For B→χ_c0K decay, we find that aside from the logarithmic divergences arising from spectator interactions at leading-twist order, more importantly, the factorization will break down due to the infrared divergence arising from nonfactorizable vertex corrections, which is independent of the specific form of the light-cone distribution functions. Our results may indicate that QCD factorization in the present form may not be safely applied to B-meson exclusive decays to charmonium states.

B<inf>(s)</inf> → η<inf>c</inf>(P,V) decays and effects of the next-to-leading order contributions in the perturbative QCD approach

By employing the perturbative QCD (PQCD) factorization approach, we studied the sixteen $B / B_{s} \to η_{c} (π, K, η^{(')}, ρ, K^{⁎}, ω, ϕ)$ decays with the inclusion of the currently known next-to-leading order (NLO) contributions. We found the following main points: (a) for the five measured $B \to η_{c} (K, K^{⁎})$ and $B_{s} \to η_{c} ϕ$ decays, the NLO contributions can provide (80–180)% enhancements to the leading order (LO) PQCD predictions of their branching ratios, which play an important role to help us to interpret the data; (b) for the seven ratios $R_{1, \dots, 7}$ of the branching ratios defined among the properly selected pair of the considered decay modes, the PQCD predictions for the values of $R_{3, 4, 5}$ agree well with those currently available measurements from BaBar and Belle Collaboration; (c) for $B^{0} \to η_{c} K_{S}^{0}$ decay, the PQCD predictions for both the direct and mixing induced CP asymmetries do agree very well with the measured values within errors; and (d) the PQCD predictions for ratios $R_{1, 2}$ and $R_{6, 7}$ also agree with the general expectations and will be tested by the future experiments.
The decays B → Ψ(2S)π(K),η<inf>c</inf>(2S)π(K) in the pQCD approach beyond the leading-order

Two body B meson decays involving the radially excited meson $ψ (2 S) / η_{c} (2 S)$ in the final states are studied by using the perturbative QCD (pQCD) approach. We find that: (a) The branching ratios for the decays involving a K meson are predicted as $B r (B^{+} \to ψ (2 S) K^{+}) = ({5.37}_{- 2.22}^{+ 1.85}) \times 10^{- 4}$ , $B r (B^{0} \to ψ (2 S) K^{0}) = ({4.98}_{- 2.06}^{+ 1.71}) \times 10^{- 4}$ , $B r (B^{+} \to η_{c} (2 S) K^{+}) = ({3.54}_{- 3.09}^{+ 3.18}) \times 10^{- 4}$ , which are consistent with the present data when the next-to-leading-order (NLO) effects are included. Here the NLO effects are from the vertex corrections and the NLO Wilson coefficients. The large errors in the decay $B^{+} \to η_{c} (2 S) K^{+}$ are mainly induced by using the decay constant $f_{η_{c} (2 S)} = {0.243}_{- 0.111}^{+ 0.079}$ GeV with large uncertainties. (b) While there seems to be some room left for other higher order corrections or the non-perturbative long distance contributions in the decays involving a π meson, $B r (B^{+} \to ψ (2 S) π^{+}) = ({1.17}_{- 0.50}^{+ 0.42}) \times 10^{- 5}$ , $B r (B^{0} \to ψ (2 S) π^{0}) = {0.54}_{- 0.23}^{+ 0.20} \times 10^{- 5}$ , which are smaller than the present data. The results for other decays can be tested via running LHCb and forthcoming Super-B experiments. (c) There is no obvious evidence of the direct CP violation being seen in the decays $B \to ψ (2 S) π (K), η_{c} (2 S) π (K)$ in the present experiments, which is supported by our calculations. If a few percent value is confirmed in the future, this would definitely indicate the existence of new physics.
Soft-collinear factorization in B decays

The combination of collinear factorization with effective field theory originally developed for soft interactions of heavy quarks provides the foundations of the theory of exclusive and semi-inclusive B decays. In this article I summarize some of the later conceptual developments of the so-called QCD factorization approach that make use of soft-collinear effective theory. Then I discuss the status and results of the calculation of the hard-scattering functions at the next order, and review very briefly some of the phenomenology, covering aspects of charmless, electroweak penguin and radiative (semi-leptonic) decays.
B → χ<inf>c J</inf> K decays revisited

We demonstrate that exclusive B decays to P-wave charmonium factorize in the non-relativistic limit provided that colour-octet contributions are taken into account, and estimate the branching fractions. Although there are very large uncertainties, we find reasonable parameter choices, where the main features of the data – large corrections to (naive) factorization and suppression of the $χ_{c 2}$ and $h_{c}$ final states – are reproduced though the suppression of $χ_{c 2}$ is not as strong as seen in the data. Our results also provide an example, where an endpoint divergence in hard spectator-scattering factorizes and is absorbed into colour-octet operator matrix elements.
NRQCD factorization for twist-2 light-cone wave-functions of charmonia

We show that the twist-2 light-cone wave-functions of $η_{c}$ and $J / ψ$ can be factorized with nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) at the one-loop level, where the nonperturbative effects are represented by NRQCD matrix elements. In quarkonium at rest the c- or $\bar{c}$ -quark moves with a small velocity v. The factorization is achieved by expanding the small velocity v. To the leading order of v, the twist-2 light-cone wave-functions of $η_{c}$ and $J / ψ$ can be factorized as the product of a perturbative function and an NRQCD matrix element. The perturbative function is calculated at the one-loop level and is free from any soft divergences. Our results can be used for exclusive productions of quarkonia, which are studied in an experiment with two B-factories.
The Fermi motion contribution to J / ψ production at the hadron colliders

We investigate the relativistic Fermi motion effect in the case of $J / ψ$ production in various hadron colliders. A light-cone wave function is adopted to represent the $J / ψ$ final state. The change in the confinement parameter which sets a scale for the size of the final state, allows one to see the effect in an explicit manner. While the effect has considerable influence on the fragmentation probabilities and the differential cross sections, the total cross sections essentially are left unchanged. Such a feature is in agreement with the momentum sum rule which the fragmentation functions should satisfy.
