This step intended to remove the influence of inter-scan signal intensity changes [40]. Additionally, the GABA level was the total amount of some contributions (GABA moiety of homocarnosine, free GABA and so on) and was therefore referred to as GABA+ [41]. The rTMS was administered via a Magstim R2 stimulator (Magstim Company Limited) with a figure-eight coil).

  • Use of quantitative brain water imaging as concentration reference for J-edited MR spectroscopy of GABA

    2016, Magnetic Resonance Imaging
    Citation Excerpt :

Regional dependence, gray/white matter distribution or pathology may increase the variance of the MM contribution to the GABA+ area [45]. If it cannot be avoided at all by using MM suppression techniques (lower signal to noise ratio) or MM-nulling scans (additional scan time), accounting for MM contribution needs to be explicitly acknowledged when performing GABA quantification [46]. The present work demonstrates that GABA estimation from edited MR spectroscopy, based on individual brain water content mapping and T1 relaxation, is feasible.
