In this study we utilized X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) contrast at PEEM [12] to examine the domain configurations in lithographically patterned Ni80Fe20 (permalloy) elements. Here we note that, as a polarized photon arrives at a 25° grazing angle, the photon polarization is sensitive to magnetization vectors in both in-plane and out-of-plane directions [13].
Magnetic disparities at the interfaces of Co-pentacene-Co hybrid structures
2011, Synthetic MetalsCitation Excerpt :The PEEM, on the other hand, collects mainly secondary electrons through an electrostatic column to form a two-dimensional image, whose intensity at each pixel is proportional to the number of electrons collected. When circular polarized photons are used to illuminate the sample surface, the PEEM can be coupled with the X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) to deliver an X-ray image in magnetic contrast [17]. In this report, the XPS is used to investigate the chemical reaction occurred at the interfacial region; while the incorporation of PEEM is to examine the micro-magnetic behavior of the bilayers.
