Highlights

  • No sex differences in pneumococcal serotype distribution in adults with meningitis.

  • No differences between Dutch men and women in post-vaccination incidence trends.

  • A few studies in invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) have found different results.

  • The influence of sex on serotype may differ between meningitis and other IPD types.
