Highlights

  • Ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt with skull defects may cause sinking skin flap syndrome.

  • If bilateral cranioplasty and VP shunt is required, simultaneous or two-step procedures within few days may be better.

  • Cranioplasty is effective for the treatment of sinking skin flap syndrome.
