However, TrFN linearised all intermediate degrees of membership (Coroianu et al., 2013), which may be inappropriate if we focus on a certain degree of uncertainty, except for 0 or 1.

2022, Fuzzy Sets and SystemsCitation Excerpt :In general, polygonal fuzzy numbers are desirable since they are very useful and convenient, especially in computer processing because they have piecewise linear membership functions and can be fully represented by a finite number of real numbers [3,12]. These and other reasons mentioned in [11,18] create a natural need to approximate a fuzzy number by fuzzy numbers that are easy to handle and that generally preserve some desirable characteristics of the original fuzzy number. A list of main characteristics of a fuzzy number that should be preserved in its approximation was presented in [18].
