Triage of patients with fever: The Manchester triage system's predictive validity for sepsis or septic shock and seven-day mortality
2020, Journal of Critical CareCitation Excerpt :It can be a symptom of presentation of many pathological diseases, both infectious and non-infectious. In a non-negligible percentage of cases, fever is the initial epiphenomenon of severe systemic diseases (e.g. sepsis or septic shock) associated with high mortality rates [10--12]. A quick classification in triage and a correct determination of the patient's severity of illness can allow a timely start of therapeutic interventions and improve the outcome of febrile patients with an ongoing septic process [13].
