2020, Bioorganic and Medicinal Chemistry LettersDeleting the citrinin biosynthesis-related gene, ctnE, to greatly reduce citrinin production in Monascus aurantiacus Li AS3.4384
2017, International Journal of Food MicrobiologyCitation Excerpt :The polyketide backbone may be transformed into citrinin and pigments via two distinct pathways (Hajjaj et al., 2000). Next, the intermediate forms citrinin through a three-step oxidation, dehydrogenation, and dehydration (Balakrishnan et al., 2015). Notably, the ctnE genes were predicted to encode a short-dehydrogenase protein, therefore, it is reasonable to deduce that ctnE plays an important role in the citrinin biosynthesis pathway.
