2022, JTCVS TechniquesIncidence and characteristics of intravascular pulmonary migration of etonogestrel implants: A French nationwide study
2020, ContraceptionCitation Excerpt :At this time, the applicator was also modified. The first reported case of implant migration was into the pulmonary artery, published in 2014 [1]. Numerous other reports followed of migration into the vasculature and other sites [2].
Endovascular retrieval of contraceptive implant embolized to pulmonary artery
2018, Radiology Case ReportsEtonogestrel implant migration to the vasculature, chest wall, and distant body sites: cases from a pharmacovigilance database
2017, ContraceptionCitation Excerpt :Published case reports of distant or deep migration were similar to the FAERS cases. We identified 13 case reports [9–20] of etonogestrel implant migration to the pulmonary artery (n=8), axilla (n=3), brachial artery (n=1) and neurovascular bundle (n=1; see Table 2 for a tabular summary of cases) in the published medical literature. Of the 13 case reports, 8 documented successful removal, but the remaining 5 implants were deliberately left in situ given the risk involved with removal.
