  • Hip effusions or iliopsoas hematomas on ultrasound in identifying hip fractures in the emergency department

2023, American Journal of Emergency Medicine
    Citation Excerpt :

In patients with high clinical suspicion for fracture, further diagnostic imaging, including computed tomography (CT) scan and/or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), is often necessary for a timely diagnosis. Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) is a frequently used imaging modality in the ED to identify joint effusions and long bone fractures, and has been evaluated extensively in the pediatric population for identification of hip pathology [13-15]. However, there are no large prospective studies examining the utility of POCUS in adult patients with a suspected hip fracture.
