2023, Engineering StructuresFailure analysis of AISI 316L ball valves by salt bath nitriding
2020, Engineering Failure AnalysisCitation Excerpt :It is necessary to employ some available surface modification treatments, to enhance the tribological and tribochemical resistance of 316L components [2–5]. Salt bath nitriding is one of the commonly used surface engineering technologies to increase the wear and corrosion resistance of materials such as low alloy steels and tool steels [6–9]. The surface hardness of 316L nitrided in salt bath has been greatly improved, but it is often found that the nitriding treatment will induce a strong decrease in corrosion resistance due to the formation of CrN, which will degrade the benefit of increased hardness.
Standing contact fatigue behavior of nitrided AISI 316L steels
2019, Surface and Coatings TechnologyCitation Excerpt :The increase in hardness and modulus of elasticity is mainly due to the formation of iron nitrides. Similar results for nitride layers formed in the AISI 316L have been reported in different works [21,33,36,37]. The value of the strain hardening coefficient was 0.23 for the three treatment conditions.
