Ultrasound Image Classification of Ductal Carcinoma In Situ (DCIS) of the Breast: Analysis of 705 DCIS Lesions
2017, Ultrasound in Medicine and BiologyCitation Excerpt :In that regard, the histopathology of DCIS is useful for understanding these variations. Ductal carcinoma in situ is considered to develop primarily at a terminal duct lobular unit (TDLU) (Wellings 1980) and then to extend within the mammary ductal lobular system. This system consists of the TDLU, subsegmental duct, segmental duct, lactiferous sinus and collecting duct (Allred 2010; Ohuchi et al. 1984; Wellings et al. 1975).
Extranodal Lymphoma of the Breast
2016, Radiologic Clinics of North AmericaCitation Excerpt :There are 15 to 20 segments or lobes in the developed breast with each draining at the lactiferous duct into the nipple. Fig. 3 shows the lobule, the functional unit of the breast, which is made up of the terminal ducts, and acini.23 The lobules change significantly during the menstrual cycles and after menopause they atrophy and decrease in number.
