Prevalence of Dyslipidemia in Non-Obese Prepubertal Children and its Association with Family History of Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, and Obesity
2006, Archives of Medical ResearchCitation Excerpt :Therefore, efforts in screening of at-risk individuals should be focused during early life in order to adequately prevent or retard the development of cardiovascular disease. However, because obesity is the most common cause related to dyslipidemia (23–25), the vast majority of studies and public health policies are focused on the screening of obese children (26–29) and there are no previous descriptions of dyslipidemia in healthy normal-weight children. The aims of this study were a) to determine the prevalence of disorders in lipid profile among non-obese prepubertal children and b) to establish its association with family history of HBP, T2-DM, and obesity.
