  • Helicobacter pylori is not the cause of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS)

    2001, American Journal of Gastroenterology
    Citation Excerpt :

The idea seemed attractive because the adult literature describes hyperammonemic disorders where H. pylori urease may be an aggravating factor (16). H. pylori is also an adverse factor in hyperammonemia associated with chronic liver disease (17–20). Because H. pylori has not been extensively studied in SIDS, we were keen to include or exclude it as a possible cause, especially because the declining prevalence of H. pylori in Western communities (21–23) over the past 20 yr coincidentally paralleled the declining prevalence of SIDS (1–3) during that time.
