Abstract

Already in 1988 the WHO stated that practice oriented research is essential to the development of the pharmaceutical service. In view of the dramatic changes from a drug oriented practice to a patient oriented one a great need exists for sound scientific research enabling a thorough assessment of the added value of new practice strategies. Examples of this research are patient education, improvement of compliance by pharmacists' interventions and the further development of pharmaceutical care concepts. It is in the interest of both the pharmaceutical research and the professional services that pharmacy-practice research be accepted as an essential part of the research and education programs at the faculties of pharmacy.
