    There is thought to be a familiar autosomal dominant predisposition as about 6.0%−11.5% of patients have a close relative with the same condition.37 There have been some associations reported between polymastia and malformations of the urogenital tract,38-40 but some other studies found no significant relationship. The clinical significance of ectopic breast tissue include swelling during menstrual cycle or pregnancy, lactation and most importantly benign and malignant lesions identical to their mammary counterpart can occur.

    According to Evans and Guyton, of the 90 cases of ectopic breast carcinoma that have been reported, 64 were located in the axilla.254 There is a reported association of supernumerary nipples and renal anomalies.20,258 The morphologic features of the majority of breast cancer cases arising from extramammary tissue are consistent with an invasive mammary ductal carcinoma in the presence of ductal carcinoma in situ or a remnant of normal breast tissue.
