Whenever the water molecules that contribute to the hydrogen bonding networks are removed the stability towards air significantly decreases as shown by trans-V(sacch)2(py)4, V(bipy)2(η2-SO4), [V(en)3]SO4, V(pySO3)2(py)4 [17] (Figs 7–10, respectively) as well as related amine derivatives [18–28], all of which are easily oxidized even in the solid state. However, these compounds—all of which possess V–N bonds—are thermodynamically stable and remain unchanged as long as they are protected from oxygen.
