2016, ChemosphereCitation Excerpt :Median serum TCDD concentration of Seveso victims was 60.2 ppt (28.5–163.0 ppt) in 1976 (Chevrier et al., 2014). Orally treated TCDD (25–50 μg kg−1) also causes edema in chick in 3 weeks (Greig et al., 1973), as well as heart malformation including enlargement of the left ventricle, septal defects and aortic arch anomalies by embryonic day 14 after injection just before incubation (0.009–77.5 pmol/egg: Cheung et al., 1981; Fujisawa et al., 2014). Orally applied TCDD (500 mg kg−1) to pregnant rats (embryonic day 5) also induces subcutaneous edema in the fetus at embryonic day 21 (Schwetz et al., 1973).
